Sudden hearing loss

Sudden hearing loss is, as its name indicates, a sudden loss of auditory function with no apparent cause. This loss may be minimum, significant or even total. Hearing loss is often accompanied by ringing in the ears and sporadic vertigo. It is uncertain what causes sudden hearing loss; it is believed to be caused by a combination of factors that, appearing together, leads to sudden hearing loss. This loss often occurs when under high levels of stress. There has been a lot of debate about how to treat this disorder. However, experts agree that it is important to begin treatment as soon as possible. When the level of hearing loss is low there is a greater possibility of a positive prognosis.
